On June 13th 1935, 11-2 underdog Jimmy Braddock would win a unanimous decision over the ever clowning Max Baer and capture the world heavyweight title. May Braddock, Jim's wife, remembered that the year before her husband won the title, their gas was shut off, and there was nothing to eat in the house. "Jim went out to to see if he could borrow just a few dollars," she said . "And that night, we went on relief. It hurt Jim's pride. After he won the Art Lasky fight, he paid it all back-$240."
